White Salmon River

Descending from the crossroads village of BZ Corners, we drop into a magical gorge with sheer, rock walls. Downstream offers the only exit. Paddlers must steer in and through one rapid after another: Maytag, Green Room, Grasshopper, Corkscrew Falls, Waterspout, Stairstep Falls, and many more. The clean water, exceptionally fresh, creates a lush riverscape whose beauty rivals the delights of the rushing whitewater. The White Salmon remains one of the best river journeys anywhere.

Meeting Place: We will meet at the Whitewater Rafting Launch in BZ Corners, Washington. You can reach BZ Corners by taking Washington 141 north out of the Columbia Gorge. BZ Corners is located at the intersection of 141 and the road to Glenwood. The Whitewater Rafting Launch is 100 yards north of this intersection.

Meeting Time: Our usual meeting time is 9 a.m. Please confirm this time when you make reservations.

Camping: Camping is available in the town of Trout Lake, 11 miles north of BZ Corners. Guler-Mt. Adams County Park is right in the town of Trout Lake, just west of the Trout Lake General Store. For information call LaRae Vaughan, camp administrator, at 509-395-2237.

Lodging: Motels are available in Hood River, Oregon and in White Salmon, Washington.

Season and Water Source: The White Salmon is fed by springs and glacial runoff from nearby Mt. Adams. There is enough water to run throughout the year. The White Salmon is the only Class III-IV run in Washington that is raftable year round.

Minimum Age of Participants: 10
